‘What Pledge Sports Gave Me Will Last Long After Funding Runs Out’

IF you think our crowdfunding platform is not sports funding’s future, talk to Paralympic hopeful Emma Cahill.

The equestrian joined Pledge Sports at the start of this year, hoping to raise sports funding to help her compete at the European Para-Dressage Championships, with a view to qualifying for next year’s Paralympic Games in Rio.

Her story touched us and we used all our powers to inspire others with it. The result was that she joined our 100% Club, is well on her way to the Paralympic Games and is even a Tedx speaker.

That is not just sports funding, that is a sports future. Cahill wouldn’t have gotten that through another sports funding model, and she wouldn’t have got our level of service from any other sports crowdfunding site.

“The support you receive as an athlete from Pledge Sports is pretty unbelievable. I dreamt up a profile and left it unfinished, not quite believing there would be much interest.

“Within 24 hours I had been contacted with advice and encouragement to just go for it. The team have great press contacts and sent out a press release on my behalf which went down really well.

“After that, they helped to manage press appearances, gave advice and helped me promote myself as best I could.

“Looking back, I can’t quite believe all of the things that Pledge Sports made possible for me. Yes, getting to 100% was amazing. but there’s more to it than that.

“Pledge Sports got the ball rolling and got my story out there in a way that will continue long after the funding has been spent.

“I’ve had the pleasure of speaking to so many of my supporters and their well wishes are there to keep me going when things aren’t going to plan.

“Pledge Sports are a dedicated and knowledgeable team, and I’ve definitely called them once or twice to pick their brains about things outside of the campaign. They want to help you so if you’re willing to put the work in, you’ve come to the right place.”
