Frankie Dettori Set to Continue in the Saddle in the USA
Although Frankie Dettori had announced his retirement from the saddle in horse racing, the Italian-born rider is now set to continue, as he will move to the United States to ride in North America in 2024.
Dettori, who rode for the last time in the UK on British Champions Day at Ascot, is one of the most successful jockeys of all time. He has won 23 British Classics and 287 Group One races around the world. The 52-year-old will be hoping to continue his success in the US.
The former British Championship Jockey will be based in California in 2024 and he has yet to declare how long he plans to compete in the United States.
International Trips Still to Come in 2023
Before he moves to the USA to begin his new role, Dettori is set to feature in Asia for a couple of major international meetings. He could ride in the Japan Cup where star Japanese horse Equinox is the odds-on favorite in the bet horses online market. The Italian is also scheduled to ride at the Hong Kong Cup in December.

Whatever happens in Asia, it has already been a fantastic year for the Italian. In the UK, he won two of the five British Classics, with wins coming in the 2,000 Guineas and Oaks on board Chaldean and Soul Sister respectively.
There were also victories for Dettori in the Ascot Gold Cup, Coronation Cup, and International Stakes at major meetings across the summer, while on the final race day meeting of his career in the UK, he won the Champion Stakes with King Of Steel. He provided the three-year-old colt with an excellent ride, taking him from last to first place in the valuable race.

Dettori has a lot of experience riding in the United States throughout his career. Not only has he been a regular at the Breeders’ Cup World Championship, but he was based in California at Santa Anita 12 months ago where he rode predominantly for Bob Baffert. It is a racecourse he knows very well.
The Pegasus World Cup will be a meeting that Dettori will be hoping to feature in next year. He then could make trips across to Asia for the Saudi Cup and Dubai World Cup, as those races have been dominated by US-trained horses in recent years. He holds the joint record for the most wins in the latter, as he has been successful on four occasions. Victory in 2024 would ensure he takes that record outright.
The Kentucky Derby is a race Dettori has yet to win in his career and he will be desperate to have at least one more shot next spring. Baffert is likely to have some strong contenders for the US Triple Crown event at Churchill Downs on the opening Saturday in May.
In a career that has been unrivaled in the sport in terms of success and popularity, Dettori’s decision will be welcomed by his supporters around the world. They will be hoping he can continue to ride major winners for many more years to come.
