My background
My name is Collin Faarup and I’m from Curaçao, which is a small island off the coast of Venezuela. The island has a population of about 165.000, which is really small compared to big cities such as New York, Hong Kong and Paris.
Tennis is my passion! I started practicing tennis with my father at a very young age and started with lessons when I was 5 years old. In the beginning my mother was nervous about letting me play in tournaments because she thought I was not ready to handle the pressure, the losses and the expectations, but since she signed me up for my 1st junior tennis tournament, I knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I want to play tennis! I even came up with my very own slogan #TennisEverydayTennisEverywhere.
I know that for me to become a professional tennis player, I still have a long road ahead of me. I still need to improve my tennis, but I feel that I can do it. I have lost several matches, and I still do, but either ‘you win or you learn’, which is what I always try to do after each loss. They say, dream big and don’t limit yourself, which is exactly what I am doing.
For me to keep on developing my tennis, I need to participate in as many junior tennis international tournaments as possible. This is the only way to improve and reach the next level. We (my parents, my coach and I), have come up with a year plan for 2017 (and 2018) with the international tournaments I need to play develop my tennis. But because of our islands’ limited resources, I need all the help I can get to achieve my dream!
My Tennis Achievements
Since I started competing in tournaments, I have been collecting medals and trophies. My latest achievement was also my greatest personal achievement. In July 2017 I was invited to be part of the Tennis Team of Curaçao to participate at the ITF/COTECC U12 TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS SUB REGION 4, where we ended as Runner-Ups. This was my first major official tennis tournament and I was selected as the ‘Most Promising Player’ of the tournament by several international coaches. For me this was the validation that my hard work is paying off. In August 2017 I will be representing my small island in Guatemala at the ITF/COTECC U12 TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS FINAL, where I plan to enjoy my tennis and do my best.
On my Facebook page “Collin Faarup” you can find my entire tennis resume, but here are a few achievements of 2017 (and before):

2017 Plans
This year my dream is to play in the prestigious Little Mo Junior Tennis Tournament taking place in Coral Gables, Florida (United States) in December. This is a really huge tournament where I can further develop my tennis by competing with several international players.
Therefore, I really need all the help I can get. Any donation from you for this cause will be much appreciated. I will be forever thankful for all of the help I get, because together we are stronger.
