Making Premiership
Ayr Ladies Rugby Team was founded in 2012. After a hardworking year of developing the team and recruiting, the ladies received a dispensation to bypass the development league and moved into the competitive Scottish National Rugby Leagues in 2013.
After just one year in the National 2 league, the Ayr Ladies Rugby Team finished 2nd and gained promotions to National 1. The ladies faced a tough challenge when they started the National 1 league, playing much more experienced teams, however they and their coaches rose to the challenge finishing in 3rd place in 2014.
Failing to gain promotion for the first time, Ayr ladies and their coaches had something to prove going into the season of 2015/2016. With extra training, support and commitment the ladies finished in 1st place winning National 1 league last season, only suffering one defeat throughout the season.
Ayr Ladies Rugby Team has now been promoted into the top Scottish Rugby Women’s league and will be competing in the Scottish Rugby Premiership next season.
Playing Away
Aside from the leagues, Ayr ladies also have had a number of achievements in their four years together.
The team’s players have had several call ups to the Scottish Women’s Rugby Team, the Scotland Under 19s and the Scotland Under 20s, as well as current captain Laura Turner being selected as Scottish Women’s Rugby Player of the Season for National 2 in 2013/14.
The players have also been rewarded for their hard work with various trips to play on the Scottish Rugby home ground at Murrayfield Stadium, were you saw them complete in the final for the Bowl in 2013, Plate in 2014 and in the Semi Final of the Cup in 2016.
Our Goals
Following the huge success of the Ayr’s Senior Ladies Rugby Team, guided by Head coach Stuart Fenwick, and with the help of recruitment nights, the Ayr female section is now home to a Senior team, Under 18s andUnder 15s.
Going into the Premiership League this season, Ayr Senior Ladies Rugby Team would really love to inspire the club’s younger teams and do their supporters proud.
In order to do this we need the best training equipment and facilities we can get our hands on. With the money donated to the Ayr Ladies Rugby Team we will have the chance to better our training facilities and to grow the team.
We already have the ability, dedication, and teamwork to make it into the Scottish Premiership, now we need your help to make that count by improving our training facilities to show the best league in the country what we’re made of!
