Rugby Club La Vila began in 1983 when Ignacio Da Vila began training in the village of Villajoyosa, near to Benidorm. Over the years, and with careful management of resources, the club slowly built themselves up into one the most established in Spain. They built their own stadium, initiated an extensive rugby programme among local schools and eventually, after winning the Spanish championship in 2010-11, they qualified to play in Europe’s Amlin Cup in a group that included the Sale Sharks, Agen and Brive. Although they lost all their games, they fought bravely, including going ahead against Sale away from home, whilst all the visiting fans found a huge welcome and enthusiasm for rugby, which is more often lost in a country known for its love of football.

However, the European campaign caused financial problems, including no financial help from the ERFL and the club eventually slipped back down to the second division. They are now back in the top division where they belong, but with a different financial structure and philosophy in place. This means they have to play across Spain with the minimum of resources. They also maintain an extremely active youth programme, training youngsters from 4 to 18 years and taking part in local and regional competitions.

Now we come to the reason we are appealing for crowdfunding for the club. They have had a tough season this year and are in the position of having to compete in playoffs to maintain their place in the top flight. The games come with a budget of €25,000, including wages, ground maintenance, travel, accommodation and everything else that comes with running a club at a top level. The players have already taken it upon themselves to raise money through local events, but more is needed. Given how much they have given to their local community and the promotion of rugby in general, we think that asking for a little help is something they deserve.

El Rugby Club La Vila comenzó en 1983 cuando Ignacio Davila comenzó a entrenar en el pueblo de Villajoyosa, cerca de Benidorm. A lo largo de los años, y con una administración cuidadosa de los recursos, el club se fue convirtiendo lentamente en uno de los más establecidos de España. Construyeron su propio estadio, iniciaron un extenso programa de rugby entre las escuelas locales y, finalmente, después de ganar el campeonato español en 2010-11, se clasificaron para jugar en la Copa Amlin de Europa en un grupo que incluía a Sale Sharks, Agen y Brive. A pesar de que perdieron todos sus juegos, lucharon con valentía, incluso avanzando contra Sale fuera de casa, mientras que todos los fans visitantes recibieron una gran bienvenida en españa con entusiasmo por el rugby, el cual se pierde a veces en un país conocido más por su amor al fútbol.

Sin embargo, la campaña europea causó problemas financieros, incluida la falta de ayuda financiera de la ERFL y el club finalmente se deslizó de nuevo a la segunda división. Ahora están de vuelta en la división superior a la que pertenecen, pero con una estructura financiera y una filosofía diferentes en su lugar. Esto significa que tienen que jugar en toda España con el mínimo de recursos. También mantienen un programa juvenil extremadamente activo, capacitando a jóvenes de 4 a 18 años y participando en competiciones locales y regionales.

Ahora llegamos a la razón por la que solicitamos el financiamiento colectivo para el club. Han tenido una temporada difícil este año y están en la posición de tener que competir en los playoffs para mantener su lugar en la máxima categoría. Los juegos vienen con un presupuesto de € 25,000, que incluye salarios, mantenimiento del terreno, viajes, alojamiento y todo lo demás que conlleva administrar un club en el nivel superior. Los jugadores ya se han comprometido a recaudar dinero a través de eventos locales, pero se necesita más. Teniendo en cuenta lo mucho que han dado a su comunidad local y la promoción del rugby en general, creemos que pedir un poco de ayuda es algo que merecen.
