Something big is about to happen, something really big! Our dreams are about to become our reality! And as a squad of under 15’s that is pretty awesome! We have done all the hard work, the preparation, and the planning. We just need a little bit of help from you so that we can complete our journey. Your support for Czech Republic Junior Touch is hugely appreciated, as it will ensure that on August 16^th, 2017 we will experience something that will live in our memories forever.

The Czech Touch Cubs

We are the Czech Republic Touch Cubs. We were a 3-year dream and now we are a reality!

Touch has been a small sport in the Czech Republic over the last 10-15 years, mostly played by expats. In 2014 one of those expats Paul Monteiro – from Tauranga in NZ – decided that he wanted to bring a little taste of this fantastic sport to Juniors and started training a small team of 8 players from 6 – 9 years old at his sons International school. Since then that 8 has grown to over 200 registered youth players across 12 clubs and schools, plus a Touch calendar that has included three Annual Junior Championships.

In 2016 Paul decided it was time to aim higher. He was ready to bring together the best of the best in the country and to create a special buzz for the wider Rugby community of Union and League. Paul wanted to give something back to a country he has called home for the past 12 years. On January 1st 2017, 30 select boys and girls were invited along to the first ever Junior Touch National Training Camp. Of those 30 players 18 would be selected to represent the Czech Republic at the Junior Touch Championships in Dublin, Ireland. The fantastic international coaching team of Sarah McAulay (GB), Sam Childs (Australia) and Renaud Carbonnel (France) worked together with Paul to get us where we are today.

Players from all corners of the Czech Republic – The Rugby League village of Vrchlabi near the Krkonose Mountains, the Union stronghold of Ostrava, the little village of Babice, and the capital city of Prague – have come together, and for the first time in Czech Republic history there now exists a National Select Touch Rugby team.

After seven 3hr long camps, we now have an awesome squad of 18. A perfect combination of Touch, Rugby Union & Rugby League players. Both boys and girls, playing a single sport that unites us all.

On August 16th we will make our way to Dublin, Ireland for the biggest and most exciting tournament on the junior touch calendar – 2017 Junior Touch Championships! We will play 3 full days of high-intensity competition against some of the best teams in the world. Bring it on!
