U21 European Championship (Czech Republic July 2019)

2019 marks another busy year for the Irish U21 Men’s Hockey Team.

The U21 team is set to compete at the European Championships in the Czech Republic in July .

The U21 programme, along with the U16 & U18 Junior Age Group programmes, are an extremely important pathway to developing players to compete at senior international level. Currently 85% of the senior squad began their international hockey career as part of the underage set up.

The U21 programme operates under a self funded model which places the onus on players to fund ALL aspects of their participation in the programme – training sessions, squad kit, all costs associated with taking part in pre-tournament matches, indeed even the cost of attending European Championship itself.

The European Championships are held every two years, and as a ranking tournament the results have a bearing on future generations. Competing successfully in these championships is of significant importance to the continued growth of Irish Men’s hockey.

Any level of support to help offset the significant cost associated with this programme would be greatly appreciated by these young elite athletes.

The squad to represent Ireland in the upcoming championships is:

1 Luke Witherow (VC) Banbridge Ulster
2 Scott McCabe Queens Ulster
3 Alex Tinney Banbridge Ulster
4 Luke Roleston Banbridge Ulster
5 Josh McCabe Cookstown Ulster
6 Matthew Crookshanks Beeston Ulster
