My name is Bethan Lishman and I was born with partial hearing loss, which has deteriorated as I have grown older. I started throwing the hammer at the age of 8 and fell in love with the sport. Since then I have trained and competed for Great Britain.
I’m 35 I have recently just competed at the British masters winter champs where I came 1st in Hammer discus and shot. Completely surprised, I have now been selected to compete for Great Britain at the European Masters Athletics in Venice this September. This is a huge honour considering I’ve never been a British champion before.
This is truly a dream come true, I’ve competed on the DeaflympicsGB team as I’m partial but to be able to compete on a hearing team would be absolutely incredible. I was the DeaflympicsGB captain and I’d love to show all athletes it doesn’t matter if you have a disability. If you have a dream and belief and believe in yourself then you certainly can achieve them.
I have to compete for my country completely unfunded so in order to be able to compete, I need to raise the funds to compete this covers entry fee, kit, hotel, flights, competition licence.
Thank you!
