Rhys is an up and coming gymnast from Ireland, although he is only 15 years old he is doing high performance routines with a special talent on the pommel horse . Rhys’s pommel routine is bigger than a lot of senior international gymnasts with being able to compete one of the hardest skills in the world on pommels horse a triple Russian on one handle! The same skill that brought huge success to Louis Smith helping him win an Olympic medal!
Rhys is building up for the European Youth Olympics (EYOF) to be held in Tibilsi, Georgia on the 26th of July 2015.
Although Rhys is training hard (around 24 plus hours per week) and competing at this high level day in day out, there is very little funding available for gymnastics within Ireland, subsequently all training fees, training camps and competitions have to be funded by himself and his family- Yes every penny!
As you can imagine this all adds up to a huge amount of money and therefore Rhys will not be able to attend all of the correct training camps and competitions to gain vital experience for the build up to EYOF.
So any funding raised here on Pledge Sports will be a huge step forward to qualifying to Tibilsi and one step closer to success #makeithappen.
