This year the Senior WAKO World Championships will be held in Hungary whilst the Junior European Championships will be in Macedonia. The Andover-based Fighting Falcons have four of its members selected to represent Great Britain and as with many Minority sports, there is no central funding or grants for the athletes selected. The cost of training, travelling and competing must be met by the Athletes themselves which places a substantial financial burden on many families, this is why we have created this campaign to raise funds for our four talented young members.
Brandon Prince won the WAKO Junior World Championships last year and at 19 years will make his debut for the senior squad. With a number of senior titles to his credit already we are hoping he can be just as successful at this year’s championships.
16 years old, Callum Hollinshead is a long standing member of the GB team. Last year he brought home a bronze medal as an older cadet. Now in the Junior age group, he is working hard to establish himself as a top-flight international and has his eye on that gold medal.
Emily Labrooy and Joshua Poyser will be making their debuts with Team GB. Although not yet black belts, both compete successfully in the advanced divisions and are looking to make their mark on the international stage.
