The Irish U16s Girls’ National Volleyball team will be making history in January 2019; it is the first time an Irish underage national team has played at an international tournament.
The girls will be competing against our Nordic neighbours & friends, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and the competition will be hosted by the Faroe Islands.
It will be a once in a lifetime experience for our girls and it will provide a platform to promote and develop this wonderful sport both at home and abroad. Together, we can put Ireland on the map as an up and coming competitive Volleyball nation. Did you know over 12,500 children play Volleyball in Irish Schools? The potential for the sport is huge and having International competition is a vital part of the jigsaw.
We would like to share the story of their journey so far and hopefully you will share in our passion, pride and enthusiasm and come on board to support this inspirational future initiative for Irish girls in sport.
The U16s National squad is made up of a nationwide panel of players led by a very determined and focused coaching team. The whole group have been working towards this event for several years, showing great character, commitment and loyalty to the game. Part of the journey to prepare for the tournament in the Faroe Islands has been localised training in clubs and schools. The team has also had the opportunity to attend a Volleyball Camp in Sardinia this summer, training with Italian and international coaches to work on each player’s technical skills and game dynamics.
The cost of getting the team to the tournament in the Faroe Islands will be in excess of €20,000.00 (This includes kit, flights & accommodation). Parents and children are going some way to hitting this target but individual fundraising events and donations can only get our girls part of the way.
We are looking for supporters to back this initiative and help our young girls live out their dream of representing Ireland on the international sporting stage. Any help will be hugely appreciated.
