Gotland 2017 Island Games

Isle of Man Island Games Athletics Team

The NatWest International Island Games started in 1985 in the Isle of Man and have taken place every two years since then. The Isle of Man is a founder member and regular host.

The Isle of Man Athletics Association is looking to send a team of 30 to the games in Gotland (Sweden) this summer comprising 26 athletes, 3 managers and a sports therapist. It will cost approx. £1400 per person to send this team, much of which will be self-funded.

We are appealing to the athletics community, the general public and businesses of the Isle of Man to help fund the Athletics Team getting to the games.

In short, we want the Team Isle of Man Athletics to be powered into the Gotland 2017 games by the whole of our Island.

Island Games Explained

The games have been dubbed as the “Small Island’s Olympics” and now comprises around 3000 competitors from 24 different Islands in 14 different sports, taking place over the course of 7 days.

It is an international multi-sport event at which competitors from the Isle of Man can compete for their Island in its own right, rather than being part of a larger nation. To some of our athletes it’s a stepping stone to higher level international success, to some it’s the pinnacle of their athletics career.

The games give our athletes a unique chance to experience international competition in a multi-sport games where they can compete alongside and against some of the very best in the sport.

They inspire those who compete to do their very best for their sport and the Isle of Man.

Team Isle of Man Athletics

Team Isle of Man Athletics is one of the most successful teams that the Isle of Man sends to the games.  For the last three games the Isle of Man have come second in the athletics medal table, generally behind the host Island. In just these three games athletes have brought home a total of 48 medals, including 19 Golds.

Through your support you will be helping the current crop of athletes from all parts of the Island take their first steps on the international stage.

All donations will be spread equally across the whole Team Isle of Man Athletics.

Thank you for becoming part of Team Isle of Man Athletics.
