So I bet everyone that has clicked on this is wondering what the word “Kōkua” means. Well its Hawaiian for, help or assistance. This is exactly what I need. I need your help (Kokua) to get to the Xterra world championships in Hawaii.
Im a young triathlete who has been competing in the sport for just four years. I decided to take a slightly different avenue of triathlon and that is of Xterra or off road triathlon. I’ve always raced mountain bikes at a younger age and at the beginning of most seasons, it seemed silly not to try and incorporate it into my true passion. This year I have raced my first full season as a Professional triathlete whilst at Loughborough University. I have however only been able to race two Xterra events as I simply haven’t been able to afford getting to such events, this is were you come in.
In those two races I have finished in the top ten and recently been crowned British Xterra Champion which has qualified me to race at the World Championships in Hawaii. This was something that was always something that me and my coach believed to be achievable at the beginning of the season, we didn’t however think I would be in such a strong position to go and really compete on the biggest stage against the best names in Xterra and be competitive as I proved against big names in the Xterra England field.
My current Goals are to get to the World Championships, race competitively and prove my title as British Champion. Looking to next year a good result in the World Champs will firmly put my name on the Xterra scene. I will look to race an entire European series and aim to finish in the top 5 overall by the end of the year.
Although I am in an extremely lucky position to be able to train in Loughborough in a World Class Squad with World class athletes that compete on an international level regularly, British Triathlon do not fund off road triathlon at this current time. So Pledge sports is one of my only chances of getting to the Championships this year. Any contribution is so grateful no matter how big or small and will make a huge difference in me achieving my goal.
