My name is Jack (‘The Hat’) Moore. I am 10 years old and I come from Poole, Dorset, on the South Coast of England – and yes, I love wearing hats!
I attend Baden Powell and St. Peter’s Junior School. I enjoy all kinds of sports including football, cricket, taekwondo, swimming and especially badminton. I also love maths!
I am currently at the top of the tree for my sport, ranked at number 1 nationally for my age, and I am determined to stay there. This campaign has been started to help me achieve that dream.
I first picked up a badminton racket when I was 6 and have been training and playing for 4 years now. In early 2017, at the age of 8, I competed at the England Nationals for U11’s at Nottingham University, and very unexpectedly, after beating 4 seeded players including the top seed, I proudly became the Silver medalist. Last year went even better – I became the England U11 National Badminton Champion. I was the top seed, being ranked number 1 in England for my age, and came away with the Gold medal, beating the second seed in an amazing final at Redbridge Sports Centre in Essex.
Due to my successes last year I was invited to join the England Junior Pathway Development squad, coached by the England National team coaches, and have attended 2 training days so far. The first was in Milton Keynes, at the National Badminton Centre, and the second at the Wycombe Performance Centre. The next day will be in Sheffield in February.
Amazingly, I have recently signed to Yonex, the world leading supplier of badminton, tennis and golf equipment, on a 2 year rackets and kit contract, and I understand that I am the youngest sportsperson to have ever signed with them in the UK.
This year ended fantastically as well. We travelled to the Netherlands and I gained my first European title, becoming the Carlton International Youth U11 Champion.
I train and play for the Dorset County squad, and have represented the U12’s, U14’s, U16’s and even, for one match, at U18 level. We train and hold our home matches at Leaf Academy, Poole.
I do most of my practice at David Lloyds in Poole with my coach Tom Ashford, who is also Head Coach for the County squads. I can be found on court about 5 times a week, including fitness and conditioning and have tournaments or County matches at the weekends.
Due to my successes so far and the requirements from the National squad, I need your help to increase my training frequency and attend more International tournaments.
I hope that you would like to join and support me on my journey, either by contributing to my campaign, by talking about my story or sharing it on social media. This could make all the difference as to the level I reach. My dream is to represent England at junior and senior levels and maybe, one day, play at the Olympics!
Thank you!
Jack
