Please help me try and achieve my two wheeled dream.
My name is Megan Chard and I am a Welsh cyclist from a small town in the UK called Cwmbran. I will be spending the majority of this year over in Belgium trying to make my dreams a reality.
Unfortunately, this is an expensive ambition to have. With a lot of my money getting spent on plane tickets, entry fees, and bike parts, as well as accommodation and petrol… for a 19-year-old student, it is quite difficult, to say the least. I am trying to raise money so that I can spend more time racing my bike in Belgium and other
I am trying to raise money so that I can spend more time racing my bike in Belgium and other countries in the bigger races.
I have been cycling competitively since 2012, where I was inspired massively by the success of team GB at the London 2012 Olympics. In 2014, I started to train a bit harder after a year of 4th and 5th position in National races.
In about September 2016, I decided that I wanted to do the sport as a career rather than a hobby and have spent so much time training, recovering, eating and sleeping right and have seen massive improvements throughout the winter.
I have previously represented Wales at a National and International level but this year I made a big step up this year into World Tour racing and it was a big reality check for me, and it has inspired me and motivated me to train so much harder.
I am riding better than I have ever ridden before, my morale is sky high and I am not losing sight of my goals. With the Commonwealth Games fast approaching and selection being based on the results of this season, for me, as well as many other athletes this year, matters more than anything.
