The University of Portsmouth Tchoukball Club is one of the fastest, most exciting and inclusive sports available to students at University. Invented and perfected over the years by a Swiss biologist, Dr Hermann Brandt, as a sport to reduce the number of injuries that occur as part of playing sport.
Tchoukball in Portsmouth has become a real opportunity for students from any background to keep fit, make friends and gain the best experience possible from their time at University. In addition, students can represent the University at both regional and national level, as well as Team UK in some cases.

The fundamentals of Tchoukball are that there are two angled trampolines, known as “frames”. The attacking team must throw the ball at the frame and the defenders need to catch it. As a non-contact sport this is the main way to gain possession of the ball. A point is scored when the ball makes contact with the floor after the ball rebounds off the frame.

Tchoukball differs from other sports in that regardless of age, gender, sporting background and even in terms of ability, there will be a space and position for everyone to play. The most successful teams in the country compete with both female and male members, who are as young as 15 and as old as 50 in some cases, but generally as long as someone is able to move and jump, age is irrelevant in Tchoukball. Anyone who knows the basic rules can play.

The club has recently run into financial difficulty through miscommunication over the past years and faces closure. As a minority sport within the University, it can be difficult to get the necessary exposure and  financial support required to get students who don’t know what the sport is to join, experience what Tchoukball has to offer and become members who feel as passionately about the sport as we do.

Our target is to raise £600 to ensure that the club survives the year and can continue to help deliver an excellent university experience in the upcoming academic year. Your support can help us secure our club’s future. Any donations are greatly appreciated.

11th Place at the Domini Fox Memorial Tournament

In September 2016 the cream of British Tchoukball descended on Portsmouth to compete in a two day Tchoukball Tournament. In addition, two teams from Switzerland (Geneva Dragons and Piranyon Origin) as well as one team from France (Le Havre) participated in the tournament. Placing 11th may seem lower than expected however the teams who placed above us included the teams from France and Switzerland, as well as many teams from the top division of British Tchoukball. It shows that our team can compete at a high level and if we take the final position of our team over to the league, we would be in second place. In addition this was after the University team had not trained all summer and for many of the players, it was the first time they had played together. Great progress!

Members from the University selected for Team UK

Two members of the team were selected to play for the Team UK "B" team. Daniel Austick and David Jackson made the jump in 2014 and competed at the Geneva "Coupe des Nations", against teams from Austria (The current European champions), France, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy and Taiwan. Both continue to train with Team UK in preparation for the World Championships in 2018. Other members of the university who currently train with Team UK include Matthew Harris, Charlie Wuidart-Gray and Diluxshan Duglas-Percy
