Can you help me reach my Winter Olympic Dream?
Hi, my name is Will Golder and I am one of the drivers of a 2man and 4man Bobsleigh for Great Britain.
I first got involved in Bobsleigh whist in my final year at school when the ex Lieutenant Governor of Jersey, Sir Andrew Ridgway set up a Jersey Team. At the age of 18, I was one of the youngest ever pilots within the GB set up at that time. I gained selection for the GB team in my first year at University. Although I am still classed as a junior within the sport, there is only one junior race a year and therefore I actually race in senior races across Europe, America and Canada during the Winter months. During the summer months I train full time in Bath with the rest of our squad.
Described by many as ‘Formula One on Ice’, Bobsleigh is an exciting, adrenaline fuelled sport. It combines the teams athletic ability, with the skills of a racing driver, to steer the bob at speeds approaching 145kmh!
Year on year I am constantly striving to improve on my previous years results. To do this I need to be able to train full time, as well as having opportunities to invest in new technology and equipment that may help the sled go faster. In order to train full time I rely upon sponsorship, donations and supporters that enable me to put all my time and effort into training.
I am now in the process of looking for support and sponsorship for to help me achieve my goals of competing at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
Since training full time I have seen some serious physical gains and improvements in myself as an athlete. My strength and power output has massively improved as well as my sprint times. In order for me to continue to improve and see better and better results I now need to continue my full time training to keep the progressions improving year on year.
I am looking to raise some funds to allow me to do this and contribute towards my costs of training full time and relocating to Bath each summer to do so. Training in Bath with the rest of our squad is essential, as I gain access to all our performance staff and coaches that have been key to my improvements and success over the last year and a half. I also need to invest in technical equipment that is also essential to world class results. A set of runners (steel on the bottom on a Bobsleigh that is in contact with the ice) can cost in excess of £6000.
If you feel you would like to help me on my dream road to the Olympics then please contribute any amount that you can afford as any small amount really does help.
Thank you for taking the time to read my profile and I look forward to updating you on my progress in the near future.
Will.
