Support

Hi,

My name is Colette and I am an International Deaf Athlete competing in the javelin throw. Here you will read a bit about me and why I really need your help.

I have been Deaf from birth. But after many years of trying to gain confidence with the support from my family & friends I am now comfortable with my disability, and I am also very proud of what I have achieved……so far 🙂

I am already the Great Britain Deaf Record Holder and hope to also break it again this season, but the main goal is one of the biggest competitions of my whole career, the World Deaf Athletics Championships in Bulgaria!

My target is a Gold Medal, but I will of course be happy coming away with any medal as the standard is very high.

The Great Britain Deaf Athletics Team aren’t fortunate enough to receive funding from the National Governing Body, though we have never let this stop us, and throughout my life I have been fortunate enough that my parents have been able to help fill that funding hole.

Unfortunately, as we are looking forward to next year and the World Deaf Athletics Championships, and the fact we have to fund ourselves to represent our country, I just worry that none of us will be able to afford to go these championships.

My dream has been to represent, and always work hard for, my country, but  not being able to finance the travel and training needed for this competition will stop me from achieving this.

My greatest achievement was my first GB Able-Bodied call up when I was 22 in which the newspaper headline stated

‘GB CALL FOR COURAGEOUS COLETTE – FIVE YEARS AFTER CHEATING DEATH.

CARLISLE athlete Colette Doran, who almost died in a car accident five years ago, has been called up to the Great Britain under-23 squad.

The reason this was so special for me was that I was in a serious car accident where I was knocked down, spending days in intensive care.

This is the time you realise how family are so important and I can’t thank them enough for their love and guidance they gave me through this very difficult time.

They helped me not to forget my goal in which I worked tirelessly to get back to the sport I love and realise my dream….I did just that! I have now just got caught with this hurdle in which I Hope to leap with your support.

If you wish to find out more about me then please visit my website www.colettedoran.co.uk or email me if you wish to talk 🙂

Thank you so much for taking time out and reading this.

With your help, I am needing to raise £3,200 to be able to represent Great Britain at The Deaf World Championships

Great Britain U23 Call Up

After nearly dying in a car accident. I battled back to gain a Great Britain Call-Up only 5 years after the accident. Going from not being able to walk out of hospital to representing my Country :)

Great Britain Deaf Record Holder

I broke the Deaf Record with 39.24m and also coming close last year of 39.23m before an injury that took me out for the season.
